Who Does Thrush Affect

Most people when they hear the word thrush they think of a beautiful small bird; however, the word thrush can be used to describe a nasty infection of the mouth. Thrush is caused by a ferment known as candida, or what is mostly referred to as yeast. Many cases of thrush present in the mouth; but still, thrush can also exists in some parts of the body.

Thrush can infect anyone at any age; however, thrush exists most rampant in babies, toddlers, older adults, and those people who have a weak immune system. Of these four groups of people, thrush is rampant in babies and toddlers.

If babies and toddlers are examined with thrush, the thrush looks like as white spotty inside the mouth and on the tongue. These white patches look like cottage cheese or milk curds. It is often for thrush to be wrong choice of milk and/or formula in babies. The white spotty that arised in the mouth and tongue cannot be remove and if they are rubbed in an attempt to remove them, the white patches will practically bleed. Thrush in babies and toddlers can cause their mouth and tongue to be sore and can cause difficulty with swallowing. Babies and toddlers affected from thrush may also lose their appetite, which can be mistaken for poor milk supply or lost their appetite. Babies and toddlers may also lost their appetite because the sores in their mouth are annoying them or they have a sore throat. Thrush may also cause babies and toddlers to become fussy thus resulting in their poor appetite. If babies and toddlers have thrush in their mouth and/or tongue, it is not uncommon for them to develop a diaper rash. The diaper rash develops because the fungus that is causing the thrush spread all over the body and can form within the stool.

Thrush in adults appears in the same fashion as in babies and toddlers. However, before any signs of thrush appear, it is not uncommon for adults to suffer from a burning sensation within the mouth and throat. When the thrush infection get acute, white legions starts to form and stick on the tongue and mouth. However, the tissue surrounded the thrush may visible like red, raw, and very annoying to touch. If the white patches are rubbed, the infected area of the mouth may bleed. Adults with thrush typically have a bad taste in the mouth and have difficulty in tasting foods and drinks. Wherein the feeling of thrush in the mouth is comparable to having cotton inside the mouth. Mothers who are breastfeeding may also be prone to getting a yeast infection which is caused by the baby who is infected with thrush. Breast feeding mothers may suffer from sore, red nipples, and a burning pain within the nipples.

Thrush also spreads to adults who are accumulating particular medications such as; corticosteroids, antibiotics, and birth control. Particular medical situations and disease can also enhanced the chances of getting thrush symptoms. Several of the most rampant include; uncontrolled diabetes, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), cancer, dry mouth, and pregnancy. Thrush also affects those that smoke as well as those who wear dentures that do not fit properly.
