The Great Hills neighborhood in Austin, Texas, is situated just off Loop 360 and Highway 138 on the north side of the city. It?s known as a family-oriented neighborhood with a comfortable atmosphere just 20 minutes from downtown and less than a mile from the Arboretum.

Great Hills was established in the 1970s and has grown significantly since then. It’s unique, as it doesn’t feature a specific style of homes. Home buyers will find everything from colonial style to modern, contemporary homes alongside several apartment complexes.

Most single-family homes range from 2,000 to 3,500 square feet and have been built as recently as the 2000s. Prices range from $200,000 to more than $700,000. Many of the larger homes feature offer open floor plans and high vaulted ceilings. It?s also not uncommon to find homes with decks that overlook an outdoor pool. The wide range of home prices paired with the variety of entertainment and dining venues nearby make it an ideal spot for families and young professionals alike.

The Austin Independent School District and the Round Rock Independent School District are the main schools in the area. Austin schools include Hill Elementary, Murchison Middle School and Anderson High School. The Round Rock schools are North Oaks Elementary, Canyon Vista Middle School, and Westwood High School. Great Hills Christian School is also in the neighborhood, which provides education for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. For young children, there are several daycares and preschools within minutes of the neighborhood including Beaver Brook Children’s Center, Stepping Stone School, and Kid Space Inc.

As with many neighborhoods in the area, Great Hills offers residents an abundance of recreational activities. Austin Hills Park is nearby, with a nature trail, a play area for children, and several picnic areas. Bull Creek Park is also a favorite spot with plenty of opportunity for swimming and hiking.

The Great Hills Country Club, a championship 18-hole course, is owned by members and offers a challenge to golfers of all skill levels. Members can take advantage of a tennis area, swimming complex, and a clubhouse where they can relax with friends. The club also offers tennis and golf lessons, as well as junior clinics and athletic camps for children.

The neighborhood draws residents because of its proximity to dining and entertainment venues, shopping, and several major employers like Dell and IBM. The Gateway Shopping Center is within minutes and is home to Whole Foods Market, several dining venues, a movie theater, and many specialty stores.
