Dyslexia
As it is a cognitive process, it was perhaps inevitable that psychologists would scrutinize reading. Perhaps beginning with the work of Huey and his landmark book in 1908, “The Psychology and Pedagogy of Reading”, there has been a lot of research carried out during and since the late 19th century. Huey’s book talks about research on eye movements, inner speech, perceptual span, reading comprehension and reading speed, all of which are still studied and hotly debated today.

Learning Disabilities
The term non verbal learning disability refers to a learning disability that affects something other than reading and writing. While dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia cover your more commonly talked about learning problems, non verbal is the other stuff. It’s the abstract thought that goes into geometry problems, logic problems and analyzing novels. While it affects the reading, writing and arithmetic it’s that secondary thinking that goes along with the analytical part.
