An Adventure To Remember: Gay Grand Canyon Rafting

We tested ourselves and committed to drive from Oklahoma to California and back in a two week period. We traveled 1001 miles in just one day, which anyone can tell you was quite a feat. We were planning to do a gay Grand Canyon trip along the way.

Rowing with the guides is for those looking for a bit more adventure since the guide will bring you through some of the rapids. Or you can do it yourself and paddle. Although the trip still requires a guide, they are the steers men while the extremist paddles through some of the wettest and roughest waters imaginable.

No photograph could ever capture the true beauty of it all. We had reached the canyon by dusk and watching the sun peaking through the valley was truly breath taking. We spent the that night at a small lodge about three miles away.

83% of those that visit are from the United States while only 17% are travelers that have come from other countries. There are three ways for a traveler to view it. You can stand on the rim and look down into it. But do be careful people have been known to fall from such heights while viewing the canyon.

While camping things to look out for; there are muskrats that live in the area however they are extremely rare. One might come across a beaver or antelope squirrels. You will be able to see loads of pocket mice. And at night a distant howl of a coyote is common.

There are spotted skunks to look out for as well as raccoons and weasels. Although rare to the area a mountain lion may roam into the national park from time to time. The California Condor makes its home among the cliffs of the canyon as well as Bald Eagles during the winter months. And every so often one might see a black bear roaming along the river bank looking for a tasty meal.

It is the lazy man’s way of seeing the canyon with no rapids but a great view. If you do decide to take the gay whitewater rafting tours there are three kinds of boats you can travel on. You can take the motor boat which is as I put it before the lazy man’s way. Imagine if you will boating on a lake for fishing. The guides take you only on the smoothest course. You can go with the oars, in which case the guide rows while you hang on.

All in all though the experience was well worth it. Especially when a storm blew in. My partner was standing on one of the out looks reading a sign that was posted. The sign said ‘If you feel the hairs on your neck stand up, step back. You can be struck by lightening.’ Sure enough as he was reading it I watched his hair stand up as if he had been rubbed by a balloon. I snapped a quick shot, he stood back just as a bolt of lightening lit up the entire canyon. Gay Grand Canyon rafting was an amazing experience and one I shall never forget.
